Skarnsundet Fishblog

Yesterday Phill and his guests from Austria were fishing a spot, which produced some good redbass in the last few days. The tackle they used was a simple paternosterrig with attractors like glowing muppets and small pieces of bluey on  2/0 hooks. In the first drift they got a hard strike on a strip of bluey and everybody was sure that this was not a red bass. The fish started taking line from the Shimano Tekota reel, mounted to the 50 lbs Antares rod and shook its head several times. Finally the fish reached the surface and the surprise was big. A strong 7,5 kg ling was hanging on one of the small hooks. 

Me and Tom had our day off yesterday and we headed out to a new mark, we have not fished before. Unfortunately it was out going  water and the results were rather disappointing. A few nice cod and a tiny ling was all we could get. We headed back to a spot, where others were  able to get one or two nice ling and tusk. The depth was only 100 meters, which made it very easy to fish. A big chunk of mackerel on ledger boom rig was lowerd down to the sea floor and the first drift began. Only 3 minutes passed, when we both got a strike. We both hooked into some good fish and a 3 kilo ling and a 4 kilo tusk were the result. Absolutely amazing fish!

The run of big coalfish is still in the fjord. These really strong, hard fighting fish have an average weight of 6 kilo and are able to take 80 meters of line in one run. Here is an example.
