Last week our regular guests from Austria had an excelent week of fishing here at the Skarnsundet Fjordsenter. Everybody was able to catch good sized fish and they simply had a nice time. The weather was perfect and the condititons for good fishing on the fjord were even better. Coalfish, cod, pollack, whiting, redfish and haddock were part of their daily catch.

At the moment we experience an excenpional coalfish fishing in the Skarnsundet. Fish up to 10 kg have been caught everyday by our guests and at the right tide you are able to catch a good amount of big fish within an hour. The big shoals of brisling are still in the fjord, which is the main prey for the bigger coalfish at the moment. Steve, Paul and Phetos joined us for a weeks summer shore fishing last week!! The guys had a fantastic week with the weather and some amazing fishing!! All the fishing was undertaken from land and around the skarnsundet area!! Plaice were the main target of the trip! Heres Phetos with a cracking 5 pounder, which took a juicy rag worm!!

Every year, Gerrard and his family are visiting Skarnsundet to have a calm, relaxing holiday and to experience the great fishing in these waters. As Gerrard has a very good knowledge about the fishing in the fjord, he and his familiy managed to catch some really nice fish during their holiday. This week we have some guest from France. They fish a lot in the medeterainien sea for tuna and wanted to experience some different fishing in Norway at the Skarnsundet.

Untill now they have caught a lot of coalfish, nice cod up to 10 pounds and some very nice pollock of a "secret mark".

Big redbass and ling

Yesterday we continued fishing our new discovered spot. Fishing with coalfish and mackerel fillets in depths between 90 and 130 meters, we managed to catch some nice redbass and ling again. The rigs we use are kept simple to avoid tangle and high costs, if we get snagd. A running boom with a flowing pennelrig trace combined with fluorocent muppets or tubes does the trick. Ling instead of redbass

Yesterday Phill and his guests from Austria were fishing a spot, which produced some good redbass in the last few days. The tackle they used was a simple paternosterrig with attractors like glowing muppets and small pieces of bluey on 2/0 hooks. In the first drift they got a hard strike on a strip of bluey and everybody was sure that this was not a red bass. Pike on surface lures

Fishing for pike with surface lures is one of the most spectacular fishing methods. Watching the pike chasing your lure in the reeds or shallow weedy bays can be addictive. The lakes around Steinskjer offer some great fishing with surface lures like poppers and stickbaits. Here I gonna post some nice fishing videos our customers made during the last 3 weeks. Especially the one with the kayak is very impressing. Fishing the strong current of the Skarnsundet in a kayak is something completely new, but very effective at the same time. With a kayak you can reach spots, where other people scare the fish with the engine of their boat. I think especially the sea trout fishing in the spring time could be cracked with the kayaks. Screaming reels!!

The last few weeks gave us a really good run of big coalfish in the Skarnsundet area. Fish around 8 kilos are not seldom at the moment and bigger fish around 11 kg have been caught. These migrating fish follow the huge shoals of "brisling" (small herring) into the inner Trondheimsfjord to feast on them.

Halibut at Skarnsundet

Last week we had 2 lovely halibuts from the skarnsundet, 1 weighing 7 kilo and the other, which was caught with me a couple of nights ago weighing 12 kilo!! Both were taken on the same mark on very similar techniques! Paul Channing from England who had been with us fishing from the shore for a week with great sucess and Plaice to 3 pound asked me if we could have a try for a halibut so on his lastnight we gave it ago!! Gerards fishing impressions

Gerard and his fishing mates experienced a great week of fishing here at the Skarnsundet Fjordsenter. Even the poor weather did not keep the lads away from going fishing every day and night. As they been here a few times, they knew when and how to fish the right spots in the area. The results were great and good sized cod, coalfish and whiting couldn´t resist to fall for their lures. Here are some nice pictures of their weeks fishing.

On our day off, me and Tom had a go for......yes, the halibut! The drift was quite strong and it was hard to fish depths of about 40 meters. We went a little shallower and caught some nice cod on a whole herring. Coalfish started to show up on the surface and I switched to a pirk. When it hit the bottom I had a fish on straight away. I couldn´t move it and then it took about 40 meters of line with the first run. Now I was sure that this fish was a halibut, we even had to follow it with [...]

Fishing for halibut can be like carpfishing. Days go by and you suddenly get the strike you waited for so long. Yesterday Tom was that lucky guy, when we were fishing over on Itteröya. We fished full herring on a lead head, which we slowly retrieved through the water column. Tom got his hammer strike right on the bottom and we knew imediately that is will be a halibut. We were right and the result was this 7 kg halibut!

Big Wolffish and Lumbfish

These outstanding catches from last week show, that not only pirking and jigging is sucessful. Natural bait always brings some surprises to the water surface.

This dutch group was fishing in about 150 meters, when they got a hammer strike. A long and heavy fight began and everybody was shure, this could be the 10 kg lumbfish! Well, when they got the lumbfish into the boat there were just 500 gram missing, but a 9.5 kg lumbfish is still an extraordinary fish. This lunker fell [...]

Hello everyone,

me and my mate Frank went seatrout fishing yesterday evening. We fished with really light gear and red/black side winders. We had no luck with the seatrout but an advantage about our area is, that you will always catch other fish while you are fishing for them.

After several mackerels we also had some nice pollock in between. Pollock seams to be everywhere at the moment, doesn´t matter if you fish shallow spots or deep.
